Our Story

Grown slowly, in a place that hasn't forgotten how.

Maanila Foods was born from our connection to Uttarakhand. No matter where life took us, we always remained deeply rooted in the hills we call home. But living in the cities made us realise something was missing; the haldi we used every day lacked the aroma, the rich golden colour and the natural goodness we had grown up with.

So we returned to our roots. To the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, where turmeric is naturally grown in the Himalayan foothills, nurtured by clean mountain air, fertile soil and generations of traditional farming. We work directly with local farmers, source in small batches and ensure they are paid fairly.

What arrives in your packet is what left their fields: naturally grown haldi, sun-dried in mountain air, freshly ground in small batches. No blending. No polishing. No stories that aren't true.

; From the hills, honestly.
Why Maanila Foods

Three honest commitments in every packet.

Every choice we make; from the seed to the seal; is quietly obsessed with keeping this haldi the way it grew.

01

High Curcumin Content

Turmeric from the Himalayan region of Uttarakhand is known for its naturally higher curcumin content compared to many commercially available varieties. Curcumin is the compound responsible for turmeric's vibrant colour and many of its traditional wellness benefits.

02

Single-Origin from Uttarakhand

Sourced exclusively from the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, our turmeric comes from one origin; preserving its unique flavour, aroma and consistency. Never blended with turmeric from multiple regions.

03

Freshly Ground in Small Batches

We grind turmeric in small batches to help preserve its natural aroma, colour and freshness before it reaches your kitchen.

Why High Curcumin Matters

The pigment that gives haldi its soul.

Curcumin is the natural golden pigment inside the turmeric root. It is what gives haldi its unmistakable colour, its warm earthy aroma, and much of its characteristic flavour.

The variety grown in the Kumaon hills is prized for its naturally higher curcumin content; nothing added, nothing extracted. You can see it in the deep gold of the powder and taste it the moment it hits warm ghee.

For centuries, haldi has been valued in Indian kitchens and in Ayurveda as a cornerstone ingredient. We simply try to honour that tradition by keeping ours as close to the field as we can.

FAQ

Everything worth asking, answered honestly.

Still curious? Write to us at maanilafoods@gmail.com.

Most turmeric on shelves is blended from many regions and grades, then standardised. Single-origin means every packet traces back to one place and one variety; in our case, small farms in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. You get consistency of colour, aroma and character that blends simply cannot match.
